What to Look for in an Engineering School?

The best engineering schools focus on good teaching, are known for their accomplished faculty members and diverse programmes, along with a vibrant and modern campus life.

Choosing the right engineering school will be one of the most difficult decisions of students’ academic path. They should think of the type of major degree they want to pursue to accomplish their engineering career goals, and whether or not the campus they’re thinking about joining meets their goals. Some factors to consider are:

The Engineering School Curriculum

It’s important to start off by asking the right questions:

  • Does the syllabus match the student’s interests and professional career plan?
  • Are the campus facilities up-to-date?
  • Does the school offer the chance for dual-degree programs  or a variety of specialisations for the major?

In fact at ESiLV, the international experience is compulsory to get the engineer diploma. In addition to the possibility to go abroad for an academic exchange semester or a work placement in a company, students of ESILV can also go during the last year for a double degree programme in Australia, in Austria, in Canada, in China, in Italy, in the United-States, in the United Kingdom or in Ireland.

The Right Accreditations

Accreditation is important for any enginering degree program, as it ensures quality education, and guarantees that the curriculum is reviewed and approved by engineering professionals.

ESiLV is a member of the CGE, the UGEI, the CDEFI, and Campus France. It awards graduates the degree of “Diplôme d’Ingénieur” accredited by the “Commission des titres d’ingénieur (CTI)” which is the French accreditation body for engineering programmes and institutions. ESiLV also has the EURACE Master label.

Internships

Career fairs are a great opportunity for engineering students to meet their future employers, and practice their soft skills, all for the goal of getting an internship or a first job to be able to compete. The career fair at ESiLV is an interdisciplinary event organised each year by Pôle de Vinci’s corporate relations department, with the support from student association De Vinci Partners, and gives students an edge in the job market.

Engineering School Location and Campus Life

While most of the work takes place in classrooms, scools must have a purposeful and mature campus life that helps students be productive and make the best of their experience.

The Pôle Universitaire Léonard de Vinci is an exceptional campus, in the heart of la Défense. On 58 000m2 students have access to the best facilities to study in modernity, in addition to sports rooms, catering, a Fablab, a Bloomberg room, a learning centre on two levels, and very modern lecture theaters.

Finally, it all comes down to the connections students will make, the job placement services the school can provide especially after training the students to become qualified candidates that attract recruiters.
