Vinci Eco Drive’s Prototype alongside Solar Impulse at the 2019 Festival of Science

The student automotive association of the Pôle Léonard de Vinci, Vinci Eco Drive organised its own exhibition stall at the Village of Sciences hosted by La Cité des sciences et de l’industrie located in Parc de la Villette in Paris (4 to 6 October 2019). ESILV’s engineering students presented their latest prototype of energy-efficient vehicle E.Pulv 2.2 and facilitated a mBot line follower robot workshop as a concrete mean to teach the youngest of children programming.

The 28th edition of the Festival of Science housed in the Cité des sciences et de l’industrie, a must-see event for  science and tech enthusiasts, attracted a few dozen visitors of all ages.

E.Pulv 2.2 and Solar Impulse, curious pioneers

On Friday the 4th October, during the Free Discovery Day for school groups (from primary to high school), the Vinci Eco Drive team presented its electric prototype vehicle with a water droplet shape.

E-Pulv, which was on display on the second floor level just above mythical Solar Impulse’s prototype aroused curiosity among visitors, raised numerous questions and gave opportunity for a lot of exchanges.

We managed to get people in the car, continued to get children coding, and proceed to drive the car around La Cité of Sciences. The visitors were intrigued and impressed by our car and its scores during the competition. (Victor Weill, communication officer Vinci Eco Drive)

During the Shell Eco Marathon Europe competition, Vinci Eco Drive crushed its own record by driving 263 miles (424 kilometers) per kilowatt hour in its Prototype Electric Battery, with a run of 8775 mpg (3731 km/l), which bested its 2018 Shell Eco Marathon performance of 1.417 mpg (1477 km/l).

Aerodynamic E-Pulv’s monocoque shell, its steering and other parts are constructed of lightweight carbon-fiber-reinforced plastics, seen as a “miracle material” on the market.

A passion at the service of the automotive sector

Designing the car of the future means putting humans at the heart of sustainable urban mobility. Hence, the student association doesn’t lack imagination or talent, as its members present the projects of this passionate community of students from the three schools (Business, Engineering, Internet and Multimedia).

“We reached an audience of interested people with excellent ideas for the future, that is relatively rare. We gave empowered presentations of our motivations, background and the reasons behind entering an engineering school and being  a part of the student automotive association.”

There’s no technical association without engineer, another reason for the automobile enthusiasts to choose the Pôle Léonard de Vinci and ESILV Graduate School of engineering to study.

Ever since I was a little boy, I have always had a passion for cars. As a student, I joined Vinci Eco Drive because I thought I would grow my skills and it would give me scope to do an innovative work in the electric mobility field.

Vinci Eco Drive will next hit the track with an improved model which will replace the current prototype E.Pulv 2.2. The association is also working on E-Pulv Vision X, the new flagship car.
