With a hundred partner universities in fourty countries, ESILV student engineers have an abundance of destination choices for their semester abroad or a double diploma agreement. Where to go?
The University of California, Riverside (UCR) associate dean Bronwyn Jenkins-Deas presented the Californian college to ESILV students and may have helped a few of them to choose this destination. When talking about California, images of sunny beaches, palmtrees and great outdoors often come up. Well UCR perfectly fits in this scene! Bronwyn Jenkins-Deas went over the main reasons why the Southern California University is a great choice for an international student.
Living the Californian dream
Students who are planning to go abroad for a semester often look for a change of scene. ESILV students, used to the Paris business district, will likely enjoy the sunshine and the mild temperatures in the wintertime. Jenkins-Deas also pointed UCR’s convenient location; close to Los Angeles, San Diego, the beaches, the mountains and the most famous theme parks. Riverside is more affordable than many big cities like Los Angeles or Paris. The moderate cost of living on campus is in Bronwyn Jenkins-Deas’s opinion something students should consider.
Studying in the University of California system
UCR is one of the ten campuses of the number one public university system in the USA. UCR is renowned for its international student body and its growing number of alumni, many of whom have won awards such as the Nobel Prize or the Pulitzer Prize. Jenkins-Deas presented the Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering Management, one of the thirteen double diplomas ESILV students can enroll in.
“A lot of our postgraduate programmes have an internship as part of the programme, so students who choose these programmes obviously get exceptional English skills, potentially work experience in the United States and the possibility of getting a certificate from the University of California”.
Students enrolled in this Engineering Management programme can also stay for an additional year and have the opportunity of working as an engineer anywhere in the USA.
A typical American Campus
With more than 400 clubs, UCR has extra-curricular activities for everyone’s taste. Bronwyn Jenkins-Deas encourages future ESILV students who would like to study at UCR to join clubs and participate in social and cultural events. Naturally, sports also are central in the school spirit. UCR helps their international students feel at home and live the life of an American student.
