Summer School: a UTS and ESILV initiative to teach engineering with a taste of Paris

As part of the partnership between the University of Technology, Sydney and ESILV, ten engineering students from UTS were welcomed this summer to create an electronic game around Parisian thematics.

For the 2023 edition of this summer school co-organised by the two schools, the summer school with a hybrid format that lasted three weeks: one week online from 19 to 25 June, then two weeks in Paris from 25 June to 7 July.

An electronic game to highlight Paris

The student’s objective was to imagine and create an electronic board game about Paris on themes such as “Paris and history,” “Paris and technology,” “Paris and art,” etc.

The idea was the brainchild of Jean-Philippe Lelièvre of Hear & Know, who has been an associate professor at ESILV for 12 years.

The program also included several cultural outings, such as the bateaux-mouches and the play “How to Become Parisian in 1 Hour”, a must-see for foreigners who have just moved to Paris. Furthermore, students also met with ESILV and ESN De Vinci students for a picnic.

A summer school reflecting a strong collaboration

This summer school supplemented the cooperation between UTS and ESILV, where some twenty ESILV students spend part of their studies in Sydney, notably as part of the double degree agreement at the Master’s level for students in the Financial engineering major.

The double degrees ESILV offers in partnership with other schools or universities enable students to complement or broaden their initial field of expertise.

As part of this initiative, ESILV students had the opportunity to exchange views with Prof. Iwona Miliszewska, Associate Dean Global Networks, Faculty of Engineering and IT, who visited the school in June.

All the virtues of ESILV’s degrees and Paris

Studying in ESILV, it’s acquiring an expertise and operational skills. It is also to be open to the company during its training. An innovative and transversal teaching providing operational and social skills.

A much more far-reaching agreement

The partnership between UTS and De Vinci Higher Education also includes an important section with EMLV Business School with Leona TAM, Associate Dean International, representing UTS on EMLV’s International Advisory Committee. There is also a double degree agreement between UTS and EMLV for finance and marketing students.

This cooperation is also facilitated by Emmanuel Josserand, Professor of Management at EMLV in Sydney.
