Six Kickstarter Projects launched by the Innovation, Research & Manufacturing students

The Innovation, Research & Manufacturing students participated in a program in collaboration with Kickstarter, the go-to crowdfunding platform for creative projects.

Six ESILV teams from the Devinci Innovation Center’s Innovation, Research & Manufacturing programme launched crowdfunding campaigns on Kickstarter to raise funds and support for their small-scale projects. Under the guidance of Oscar Lhermitte, the man behind Kickstarter’s Quickstarter concept, the students had to think “small” while creating products that had to meet the following requirements:

  1. Design it, prototype it and manufacture in less than 3-4 months
  2. Launch your products on Kickstarter
  3. Keep the campaign under 30 days
  4. The funding goal is under £1,000
  5. Shoot the video in just one day with a smartphone
  6. No PR & media relations

Oscar is a Paris-based product designer and Kickstarter expert who works with startups, businesses and creative studios to turn their projects into products.

The Quickstarter Programme

As part of their Quickstarter challenge, the students had to create real creative campaigns.

IRM Students’ Kickstarters

Several reports, training series and weekly support sessions were held at each stage of this programme.

At the time of writing, there are 321 or so projects listed on the page Kickstarter expressly set up for Quickstarters. These are small campaigns that are more about experiments and fun than about launching full-scale businesses. IRM students’ Quickstarters include:

  • A wall-mounted goal tracker.
  • A silicone construction game.
  • An anti-stress pen grip.
  • Enamel tokens.
  • A customizable candle jar canister.
  • A multi-function key-chain.
