Simon Adda, a student of the class of 2020, won one of the five challenges set by Qlik datathon. Simon developed a data integration solution for analysing the data related to Australia’s most vulnerable cities to climate-related disaster.
The hackathon was co-organised by Qlik, analytics and BI solutions provider, and C40 Cities, a network of the world’s megacities taking action to address climate change. The contest invited the students of the world to use Qlik analytics and public data to build solutions to help solve some of the issues at the heart of our current climate crisis in multiple geographies.
Participants had two months to design and execute projects on adaptation, air quality and climate resiliency for cities across all areas of the globe, using Qlik Sense business platform and public data.
Simon’s data application, winner of the urban planning challenge
Simon Adda, 5-th year student at ESILV, majoring in Financial Engineering, won the challenge entitled “Planning to protect the most vulnérable communities in cities”. His application offers comprehensive and high-impact maps of the places most affected by the climate change in Australia and digs into adverse effects felt in particular on the East coast.
“During my internship in the field of smart analytics, my manager recommended me to take part in this contest, to polish up my Qlik Sense Desktop knowledge, a visualisation tool which is largely used in my profession. I decided to focus on Australia because it’s fighting a climate war. My strategy was to retrieve large quantities of essential data on the Australian people and infrastructures, to identify the cities whose protection should be a priority.” (Simon Adda, ESILV student, class of 2020)
At the occasion, Simon was able to present his solution at the QlikWorldOnline, a free virtual event with keynotes, over 100 breakout sessions, demo stations and networking geared for data integration and data analytics gurus.
At ESILV, the specialisation Data & AI trains experts in big data and small data collection, warehousing and analysing. The engineering students take part in innovation-based AI and valorisation projects in all economic and industrial fields.
