Sanitary Measures and Industry 4.0: Cad.42’s Connected Solutions, a Startup Cofounded by Two Alumni from ESILV

Two ex-students from ESILV, Jean-Philippe Panaget and Raphel Garcia Brotons, cofounders of the startup CAD.42, have developed a new device precise within 10 centimetres. The tool alerts if we are less than 2 meters from another person.

The beeper Kyd.42 is a connected solution offered by CAD.42 to ensure social distancing and barrier measures on the construction sites.

With the return of workers on the construction sites, the construction companies have to set up sanitary safety measures: two-meter rule, mask-wearing, hand hygiene.

According to Jean-Philippe Panaget, a graduate from ESILV and an external professor of the Start-up track, the new device reflects a shift in mentalities.

“We have to realise that we are asking workers to change overnight their way of doing and being. This product doesn’t help workers to keep a safe distance, but to adapt to the new rules.” (Jean-Philippe Panaget, CAD.42 cofounder, class of 2012)

Connected solutions for safety during the pandemic

Cad.42 provides real-time construction field tracking mixing AI, IoT and BIM technologies for industrial performance. In the context of the actual health crisis, the startup created in 2016 adapted its offer to imagine various connected solutions named “Covid-19”.

Kyd.42 (Keep your distance) is a connected object that helps to ensure social distancing. The beeper alerts its users in case of physical proximity (less than 2 meters).

“Unlike other geolocated devices, Kyd.42 is 10 cm precise without infrastructure. Thanks to a ranging-system, each device synchronises with surrounding objects, within a radius of 10 meters. The ultra-wideband (UWB) technology has “time-of-flight” capability. This technology allows it to precisely measure distance from other ultra-wideband transceivers by checking how long it takes a radio signal to go back and forth. Each device measures distance up to 20 times per second.

CAD.42 put the object on the market on April 22. Since then, it has a lot of orders from industrial markets, as well as health, long-care, logistics sectors.

Other connected objects from CAD.42 allow sending alerts, whether using geolocalised data linked to the FieldTracker platform or calculating the relative distance of items.

  • Proximity alerts (BLE technology)
  • Absolute outdoor geolocalisation (GPS RTK)
  • Absolute outdoor/indoor geolocalisation (UWB)
  • Centimetre-accurate proximity detection (UWB)

The Fieldtracker platform offered for free during the lockdown

Fieldtracker is a web application provided by CAD.42, which allows collecting and analysing the data to set up and track on-field prevention campaigns.

The platform is compatible with all the connected objects geolocalisation-based developed by the company.

CAD.42 shows solidarity with startups hit by the coronavirus crisis and offers its platform for free to all its clients during the lockdown.
