Questions for the Alumni in Computer Science, Big Data and Connected Objects

ESILV Graduate School of Engineering trains engineers with strong scientific and technical bases and a real professional experience, so who’s better than the school’s alumni to answer some interesting questions about the major’s challenges and highlights.

Last March, during the orientation workshop for ESiLV students, the IBO (Computer Science, Big Data and Connected Objects) alumni Danae Toubiana (Class of 2017 – Sopra Banking Software), Pierre-Ugo Touraille (Class of 2017 – Aubay), and  Stanislas Dolcini (Class of 2018) shared some thoughts regarding their careers in this field.

Advantages of working in the Sector

All three alumni agreed on the core idea that their major allows working in multiple sectors such as banking, finance, industrial, aeronautics, and energy. There is always diversity because it’s everywhere. They also highlighed the importance of being ahead of technology and realizing how it is used at all levels of information technoloy.

3 Tips for Choosing the Right Major

For Danae, her tips were summed up in three main word:

Self esteem, listening and being open to others, and of course experience.

In addition, it’s imporant to pick a growing sector that is in high demand in the market and offers job opportunities for graduates. Pierre-Ugo added

Luckily, all major specialisations at ESiLV are in high demand, for me, especially with regards to recruitment, I chose IBO.

This is directly related to picking a direction that allows traveling and exploring countries that are also in need of this fastly growing field which will allow discovering new techniques and styles of project management as well as technologies. Another tip to choose the right career path was passion. It’s necessary to work in a field that makes students feel comfortable and motivated to give their best and explore their potential.

As for Stanislas, he took a more analytical stance and advised students to take their time in choosing, and organizing their ideas into pros and cons and project themselves into the future as to whether or not they see themseves years ahead working in this sector.

Computer Science, Big Data and Connected Objects Programme Overview

The “IBO” major trains general computer engineers who are able to master all data processing components. To answer the evolution of the company’s strategic needs, the future engineer will be trained to information systems, to the architecture of databases, to the mobility and the application development.
