In collaboration with the Programme de Transfert au Campus Cyber (PTCC), the Institute for Future Technologies (IFT) hosted a talk featuring MIT researcher-entrepreneurs Dr. Tina Srivastava and Dr. Charles Herder III. During the event, participants explored the challenges and breakthroughs in cybersecurity innovation alongside them.
The speakers shared their journey from doctoral research to founding Badge, a successful cybersecurity company. They offered invaluable insights on spinning off a company from academic study and discussed broader lessons about technology transfer and innovation in secure environments.
Redefining Privacy and Identity
Dr. Xiao Xiao, Director of the Institute for Future Technologies, warmly welcomed the attendees. She introduced IFT as the trans-disciplinary and innovative hub of De Vinci Higher Education, whose work spans diverse fields such as robotics, environmental preservation, new modes of transport, space, and prosthetics.
Following the introduction, Dr. Charles H. Herder III, an expert in cryptography, embedded systems, AI, and quantum computing, delivered an insightful speech.
With a background in developing embedded systems authentication technology for Texas Instruments and leading projects with Dell, Rim, Cisco, and Philips, Dr. Herder has a wealth of experience.
He co-founded Badge, a startup redefining privacy and identity, offering seamless integrations through direct integrations, apps, and connectors. He discussed the principles behind Badge and its journey from research to a thriving startup.
Technology Transfer Insights
Dr Tina Srivastava, an MIT-trained rocket scientist, entrepreneur, technology expert, author, and inventor, also shared her expertise. With experience ranging from the chief engineer of electronic warfare programs at Raytheon to co-founding a venture-backed security startup, Dr Srivastava is a leading voice in technology transfer and innovation ecosystems.
She discussed strategies for incentivizing innovation and the importance of technology transfer within these ecosystems.
