As part of the Professional Project module, 5th-year students at ESILV followed a programme dedicated to preparing them for job hunting, self-knowledge, and developing professional skills. This integrated approach aims to better prepare future engineers for their entry into the job market.
At the beginning of September, engineering students took part in a compulsory module entitled Marketing Yourself and Salary Negotiation. This programme has been designed for French-speaking and international students to strengthen the soft skills of 4th and 5th-year students.
A personal development module for engineering students
The personal development module offered students a series of coaching sessions focusing on self-knowledge and soft skills development.
During the workshop, students reflected on their professional future, discerned their aspirations and learned how to build their career path.
The aim is to enable students to become the best version of themselves, maximise their potential and achieve greater personal, professional and social fulfilment.
Objectives and themes of the “soft skills” module
The “Marketing yourself and salary negotiation” module aligns with ESILV’s pedagogy and De Vinci Higher Education’s cross-disciplinary pedagogy.
It is structured around five years and five stages focusing on “Soft Skills & Careers”, with a particular emphasis on the theme of leadership and a module dedicated to career management.
This workshop was particularly relevant because, in the professional world, individuals are assessed on their ‘soft skills’, i.e., personal qualities and non-academic skills. These were both personality traits and skills acquired through training and experience.
Looking for an internship or a job: how to prepare?
The main objectives of this module were to prepare students for the search for a 5th-year placement or their first job, to help them think about a longer-term career strategy, to build the pillars of a career plan, to get to know themselves and to understand their skills, motivation, values, aptitudes and personal constraints.
Optimising your CV and LinkedIn profile, can also be learnt!
This programme also included CV creation and LinkedIn profile optimisation, preparing students to participate in the “Forum Entreprises 2023 – De Vinci Career Fair”.
The Career Fair is a significant event aimed primarily at 5th-year students from the three schools, EMLV, ESILV and IIM, looking for work placements at the end of their studies. However, it is open to 4th-year students, with registrations already open for recruiters.
The workshop also prepared student participation in forthcoming recruitment events at De Vinci Higher Education, notably the Meet & Match on innovation, industry and robotics, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and data.
There will also be a Career Fair in two formats, online and face-to-face, focusing on finance, auditing, insurance, healthcare, biotechnology and the energy transition.
