Enhancing Engineering Education: ESILV and Georgia Institute of Technology Dual Degree Programme

The dual degree programme between De Vinci Higher Education’s ESILV (École Supérieure d’Ingénieurs Léonard-de-Vinci) and the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) represents a significant step in fostering international education and professional growth for engineering students.

This collaboration aims to welcome more ESILV students to Georgia Tech-Europe in Metz, France, and the main campus in Atlanta, Georgia (USA), offering a unique blend of European and American educational experiences.

Programme Structure and Professional Opportunities

The dual degree programme is tailor-made for 5A (fifth-year) students, facilitating a seamless transition into the US education system.

Participants will spend two semesters at the Georgia Tech-Europe campus in Metz, followed by at least a semester on the main campus in Atlanta.

This structure enhances their academic credentials and opens doors to prestigious companies like Cisco, Schlumberger, Total, EADS, Thales, Safran, Airbus, GE, Areva, and Amadeus.

The ESILV and Georgia Institute of Technology programme

Students applying to this programme must hold a Master of Science degree and can choose from several specializations:

  • Aerospace Engineering: Focus on Mechanics of Multifunctional Structures and Materials, System of Systems and Complex Systems Integration, Space Exploration & Earth Monitoring.
  • Computer Science: Specializations in Machine Learning, Computational Perception & Robotics.
  • Electrical & Computer Engineering: Concentrations in Digital Signal Processing, Electrical Energy, Systems and Controls, Nanotechnology.
  • Mechanical Engineering: Focus areas include Acoustics/Dynamics, Mechanics of Materials, Micro and Nano Engineering, Heat Transfer, Combustion, and Energy Systems.

The Application Process: Being eligible to Georgia Tech

ESILV pre-selects students for the programme during the fall of their fourth year based on their academic performance in 3rd year.

Students pre-selected must then take standardized tests such as the TOEFL or IELTS or TOEIC, and GRE if applied to Computer Science.

By spring, they must complete their online application, including transcripts, letters of recommendation, and official test scores.  Admission decisions are made between February and March, allowing students to start the programme the following fall.

Life at Georgia Tech-Europe: The Value of International Experience

Georgia Tech-Europe, established in 1990 in Metz, offers an international student community with around 250 students.

Located in the Grand Est region near the borders of Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany and just 80 minutes from Paris by high-speed train, this campus provides easy access to faculty and a strong network of corporate partners. Weekly seminars with industry leaders further enhance internship and job prospects.

An opportunity for ESILV engineering students to validate their studies with international experience through academic exchanges, internships, or the dual degree program.

Research and Innovation at Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech is renowned for its robust research programmes, investing $1.4 billion annually. Students pursuing an MS thesis or PhD can access cutting-edge technology platforms on GT Europe and GT Atlanta campuses.

Georgia Tech’s incubator is ranked among the top 10 in the US. It fosters innovation and entrepreneurship through programmes like Startup Lab, ECE 6001, and CS 8803 Global Entrepreneurship. Since 2014, over 300 startups have emerged, with a total valuation exceeding $1.4 billion.
