The De Vinci Research Center organised a research day on e-health & ethics last April on the Arche campus in Paris La Défense.
The E-Health and Ethics research day, organised by the De Vinci Research Center (DVRC), brought together experts from different fields to compare their views on the ethical issues related to using digital devices in health. It also highlighted the importance of pedagogical transversality, a founding principle for the students and the faculty, to encourage a more holistic and collaborative approach to society’s problems.
A transversal day dedicated to e-health
The main objective was to bring together the perspectives of social sciences, humanities, management, and engineering sciences to shed light on the issues related to e-health.
As pedagogical transversality is a founding principle of De Vinci Highert Education to bring students and activities of the three schools – EMLV, ESILV, IIM – together to compartmentalise their approaches and open their horizons, this event was no exception—a founding principle for the students, but also the faculty.

Use of digital devices in health: an ethical issue?
Despite the considerable benefits and progress made possible by implementing digital devices in health and healthcare, crucial ethical questions are being raised.
Bioethics and deontological perspectives intersect with all the issues related to the use of information technologies and their implications on people’s lives, such as privacy, the digital divide, and the reluctance towards AI.
Two value systems confront each other and simultaneously feed a wide range of issues encompassing different philosophical, moral, normative, technical, managerial, or legal perspectives.
A panel discussion with experts
Experts shared lectures to compare the views of the social sciences, humanities, management sciences, and engineering sciences to shed light on these issues.
Experts from different fields spoke at this research day to shed light on the ethical issues raised by using digital devices in health. Speakers included Professor Suprateek Sarker from the University of Virginia Business School in the United States and Dr. Thomas Guyet, a researcher at INRIA Lyon.
A round table was organised to deepen the debate with Mrs. Karine LEFEUVRE, vice-president of the “Comité consultatif national d’éthique” (CCNE) and scientific advisor in charge of human rights and Democracy in health at the Fondation Partage & Vie, Prof. Samuel Fosso WAMBA, associate dean of research at TBS Education, and Prof. Benjamin NGUYEN, professor at INSA Centre Val de Loire and the Laboratoire d’Informatique Fondamentale d’Orléans (LIFO).
