E-Health and M-Health: Latest Technologies to Watch out For

2020 arrived and brought with it the many ways technology is changing how we think about IT in healthcare. The current developments in technology in the area of e-health and m-health are also increasing benefits for both practitioners and the patients.

Innovations are continuously making major impacts on the medical treatment and healthcare industry as a whole. So what are the latest technologies that are changing the game?

E-Health and Mobile Healthcare

Mobile apps are becoming the most effective means to ensure optimum patient engagement and clinical case management. With the support of these health apps, contacting doctors and medical care facilities are becoming easier and without a hassle. In many parts of the world where mobile app development has penetrated into the healthcare systems at large, the medical sector is supported by these technologies to be able to prevent, help treat, and manage several crucial diseases such as type 2 diabetes.

On the other side of the spectrum comes the app developers worldwide: for them, m-health apps bring a remarkable growth opportunity. The impact of health apps has become so widespread and global that any healthcare facility that does not embrace mobile health apps is running the risk of being not trusted by the patients.

Healthcare IoT

The Internet of Things is no longer viewed as the cluster connected devices that too complicated to be leveraged. Actually, IoT has already penetrated serious environments like manufacturing and healthcare sector and offered a lot of values.

As a matter of fact, connected healthcare devices had a start through the wearable health and fitness trackers that always provide useful health information and insights through the connected mobile apps; however, IoT continued to transform many regular health devices into connected gadgets that support other suppliers, particularly in transporting medical equipment and medicine.

3D Printing in Clinics

It might be shocking to some, but 3D printing has been around since 1984.  But only since recent advances in the technology has 3D printing become a trend to watch.

The healthcare 3D printing market reached $578 million in 2017 and is expected to grow immensely by the year 2024.

However, the lack of trained professionals, high software costs and strict regulations are still holding back the technology. This requires a head start for young engineers who are gaining hands-on experience during their academic year and applying innovative techniques in their projects, in the hope that they will one day serve the healthcare industry and create more efficient e-health and m-health system.

The perfect example would be 3D-printed organs which  can be used in human transplants. This would decrease costs of procedures and would increase efficiency.
