The Path to Paris
Daniel Sanchez has already completed his engineering studies in Colombia and decided to further his education by pursuing a Master’s in engineering in Innovation and Creative Technology at ESILV and the Institute for Future Technologies.
This program stands out due to its innovative approach. It encourages students to push the boundaries of technology and scientific knowledge and solve societal problems through unique innovation projects.
The program’s curriculum is based on interdisciplinarity, collective intelligence and radical learning. These principles emphasize self-directed learning, a collaborative approach through group projects, and hands-on experience or do-it-yourself.
The Challenges of Transition
Moving to Paris in August 2023 was both a dream come true and a formidable challenge for Daniel. The excitement of studying in a world-renowned city was tempered by practical difficulties such as finding housing and navigating administrative procedures.
Initially, the transition was challenging due to the language barrier, as Daniel did not speak well French upon arrival.
However, he viewed this challenge as an opportunity to immerse himself fully in the culture and learn the language rapidly.
Professional Growth and Learning
As part of his 4th-year master’s program, Daniel must complete a four-month internship. Despite the language barrier and the competitive job market, he secured an internship at Vinci Construction, a significant player in the French construction industry.
This experience allowed him to understand advanced technologies and innovative practices in French construction, highlighting the significant gap in industry development between French and Latin American countries.
The internship also reinforced his belief in continuous learning and adaptability.
Future Plans: Deciding Between France and Colombia
Regarding his plans, Daniel expressed the difficulty of taking the decision between staying in France or returning to Colombia.
While France’s professional opportunities and lifestyle are appealing, he receives financial support from a Colombian entity called Colfuturo. This entity offers a loan that can be partially forgiven if he returns to his country.
Daniel’s Advice for Aspiring Students
Daniel offers valuable advice for students aspiring to study abroad.
He emphasizes the importance of patience and realistic expectations, advising against rushing the process. Planning is crucial, especially for finding housing and handling administrative tasks.
Daniel also encourages seeking help whenever possible, suggesting that persistence in reaching out can open doors to opportunities.
