Find an original idea, design a product, and then kickstart their projects thanks to crowdfunding. It’s one of the Master of Creative Technology objectives at ESILV, delivered at the Devinci Innovation Center, the transdisciplinary innovation center of Devinci Higher Education.
In 2022, a few group projects designed by engineering students reached up to 500% of their crowdfunding goals on Kickstarter. Each year, as part of their Master’s in Engineering curriculum, the students in the Creative Technology programme put their ideas to the test, by launching projects in different categories relevant to their engineering studies in Paris: product design, interactive design, games, technology, etc.
Kickstarter: “all-or-nothing” model as a stimulus to innovation in engineering school
Joining Kickstarter, with its “all-or-nothing” nature, means a project must meet its fundraising goals within a set period before its creator receives any funding.
In 2022, ESILV students were guided in their creative process by industrial designer Charlie Zehnlé. As a result, all the six campaigns launched on February 15 exceeded their funding goal on Kickstarter in 30 days. Some of them went up to 500% of their target.
Creative Technology students raised €12 272 on Kickstarter
The 25 students of the Creative Technology class of 2026 have launched six campaigns, month-long, on Kickstarter, after six months of preparation. These crowdfunding projects present new products and uses that are technology-based and combine ideation and visual design skills.
